What Numerology
Actually Is
Numerology is a system, not magic. In the Pythagorean tradition your date of birth and your birth name are reduced to single digits, and each digit carries a defined meaning. The same inputs always give the same numbers.
It rests on a few core numbers, and they’re worth knowing once, properly.
The Life Path is the “where to”. Calculated from your full date of birth, it describes the through-line of how you tend to move and the kind of work that keeps recurring for you.
The Expression number is the “what with”. Calculated from your full name at birth, it points at the toolkit you arrived with, your natural talents and how you put them out into the world.
The Soul Urge is the “what for”. Drawn from the vowels in your birth name, it points at what actually motivates you underneath the visible goals.
The Personal Year is the “when”. A repeating nine-year cycle that frames what kind of year you’re in, not what will happen, but what theme tends to be active.

Put in “Sam” instead of “Samuel David Carter” and the system returns a real number, just not yours. That’s why our form asks for the birth-certificate name specifically. It isn’t bureaucracy, it’s the difference between your reading and a stranger’s. If your legal name has changed, numerology still treats the original as the structural one and reads later names as overlays.
